EA UFC 5 Release Date: Breaking Down Potentially Massive Info Leak
Reported leaked screenshot from EA UFC 5
A boat load of information on EA UFC 5 may have just leaked, and if it is all true, we now know a lot more about what we can expect from the upcoming title.
All of the information below comes from Mike Straw of Inside Gaming’s live stream on Tuesday, August 29.
You can watch the entire stream below, but I’ve broken out the main points and offered some thoughts on each concept.
Because of the specificity of the information and the screenshot above and below. It seems there is some validity to the leak.
This image is not from a previous EA UFC and there are details such as the Venum gear and logos, the 30th Anniversary logos on the gloves and the camera angle that suggest this is from EA UFC 5.
Still, the following information from Straw hasn’t been confirmed.
I reached out to EA for a comment on these potential leaks, but the publisher had no comment at this time.
The release date is set to launch on October 27, per Straw.
The cover athletes for the standard edition are reportedly UFC Lightweight champion Alexander Volkanovski and former UFC Women’s Strawweight champion Valentina Shevchenko.
The face of the deluxe edition is reportedly Israel Adesanya.
The pre-order bonuses for EA UFC 5 will reportedly be Mike Tyson, Muhammad Ali, and Fedor Emelianenko. If this holds true, we might be seeing the coolest set of pre-order options rewards in the game’s history.
I hope this doesn’t mean Bruce Lee isn’t returning, but Tyson, Ali and Emelianenko are excellent potential additions to the roster.
The game is reportedly headed for an M-rating, which is based on blood and a new realistic facial damage engine. According to the information, fighters can receive damage to eight regions of their face in the form of bruising and swelling.
There are varying degrees of damage to each spot.
All of it can be combined to make up over tens of thousands variations of overall facial damage. The game is said to also include doctor stoppages for really bad cuts.
It’ll be interesting to see the system that controls that aspect of the game.
According to the information provided, the submission mini-games have been reworked with an emphasis on transitions.
This is a very touchy aspect of the gameplay experience, so fingers crossed on any change made to this area of the game. Users will likely be paying close attention to this mechanic as it could make or break the combat system.
The knockouts in game are said to be augmented by a new cinematic replay system.
I’m hoping there is a separate replay suite that allows users to control angles and more. This functionality would be gold for content creators.
EA UFC 5 will also reportedly have an online career mode featuring created fighters. This sounds like it will be based on unlocking skills and cosmetics as you progress through online and offline challenges.
The fights will take place in one of four divisions with a goal of winning the championship. It seems likely we’ll see women’s bantamweight, men’s bantamweight, welterweight and heavyweight, but we’ll have to wait and see which ones are confirmed.
It doesn’t appear as though EA UFC will launch on PC.
This is a trend that could become popular for annual sports titles as the lift is heavier when supporting the Steam platform, and there are often leaks that come from users who extract data from hidden files.
From a development standpoint, it can be a headache that leads to the elimination of a PC option across multiple games.
It won’t be long before all of the gaps in information are filled. Stay tuned for more info on EA UFC 5 as it becomes available.
