'Entitled' parents reserve park benches for child's birthday with 'rude' note

The parents of a child who reserved three park benches for a birthday party have been slammed as "rude" and "entitled" after leaving rude a note for other park visitors.

The benches had been decorated with table clothes to steer other visitors away from the park benches - which are not able to be officially reserved.

A note, deemed "passive-aggressive", was left on the table to warn people not to sit on the benches.

It read: "Reserved for a birthday party. Please respect the space we've set aside and do not use our tables. This is for a four-year-old's party, don't be the one to mess it up, thank you."

While nobody chose to sit at the tables, the notes left a number of people enraged.

One park-goer shared a picture of the tables on Reddit where they called the parents "entitled".

Their post read: "Busy public park on a hot Saturday/Labor Day weekend. Seems super entitled. Park has been open for four hours and no sign of them. All the other tables are full."

The author went on to reveal the tables remained empty for six hours before the "very rowdy" party arrived, armed with a loud portable speaker.

They said: "The rangers had to come and have a very long chat with them, after that they settled down."

Families decided to set up on blankets near the tables in a show of disgust.

After sharing the post, people likened it to reserving sunbeds on holiday at 7am and not showing up until 3pm.

One woman said: "Several people could have used the chairs and left by the time they even showed up. Do you think this is entitlement or an extreme lack of awareness? I guess both types of people probably do this."

Another wrote: "I understand them wanting to make sure they have seats for a party they want to throw in a public park, but preventing everyone from using them all day when they're not even there yet wasn't a great choice."

Some felt there was no issue in reserving the tables as long as you show up for them soon after setting up. One person said: "I think if you want to hold the table you need to station someone there to wait all day, otherwise it's first come first serve."

Another added: "Yeah, I really want to be on their side because I know even when you reserve tables at the park, sometimes people refuse to move, but without a time on the note, the note is just useless."

Someone said the following note would have been more acceptable: "We're having a birthday party for our four-year-old at noon. Feel free to use this table until then, but please leave it by noon so we can celebrate this special day with our family."

Some people even suggested other visitors throw the note in the bin in an act of defiance.
